SHAHJAHANI Mosque (Taj Mahal Mosque), Agra, U.P., India

SHAHJAHANI Mosque (Taj Mahal Mosque), Agra, U.P., India Built by Mughal Emperor, Shahjahan, This is a great piece of architecture. But unlike the previous Mughal Mosques architecture, this mosque departs from the idea of "greatness does not necessarily lies in grandness". A rather small on Mughal scale of mosques, This is nonetheless an impressive architectural accomplishment and gives you a single best view from inside looking out can be easily envied by other great mosques of the world. . I hope you know what I am talking about.

JAMA MOSQUE, Old Delhi,India. The Largest Mosque in India

Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan's grand mosque. Shah Jahan built many mosques in Delhi but Jama Mosque turned out to be the Largest Mosque built in India. Its a stunning peace of architecture and gives you a breathtaking view of Old Delhi and its legendary Chandni Chowk (Moon Lit Avenue) area. Boy!! did that Red Sandstone came in handy along with Marble again...Vintage Jama Mosque Image..(1878)

Jama Mosque, Fatehpur Sikri, India.

Jama Mosque, Fatehpur Sikri, India. Emperor Akbar's epic in Red sandstones and Marble. Built during the Mughal Empire's Golden Era of Akbar's reign, this mosque by many is considered the greatest accomplishment of emperor Akbar who was known to be a pioneer in blending central Asian architecture with regional Hindu architecture. Akbar's grand capital, Fatehpur Sikri and Sikandra are prime examples.

Dar-ul-Uloom Deobandh, Saharanpur, U.P., India: Asia's premiere Islamic Institute.

Door of Knowledge After the Great Uprising of 1857, there was perceptible change in the thinking of the Muslims in India. The revolt against the British imperialists was conducted under the banner of Bahadur Shah Zafar, who was then an ailing Emperor of the fast disintegrating Mughal Empire thanks to British tactics and previous emperor Aurangzeb's antics. It was realised that feelings of national integration were of utmost importance for the liberation of the country.

Cheraman Juma Masjid, Kodangallur - FIRST MASJID IN INDIA

Current View
Cheraman Juma Masjid

Previous View

These are pictures of the first Masjid in India, in a place called Kodangallur in Kerala. The story about this Masjid is that the king of that place, Raja Rama Kulasekhara accepted Islam at the hands of the Sahabi of RasoolAllah(SAS),Malik Deenar (not the Tabayi of the same name but the Sahabi) who came here in 4 Hijri. He gave him and his companions land to build a Masjid which was built by local
carpenters.

It resembles a Kerala temple in construction and has a brass lamp for lighting. Inside it has a mimbar and mihraab. Just outside the main chamber are the graves of the son of Malik Deenar's son and his wife. Malik Deenar himself left this place and went to Kasargod where his grave is.

It is said that Raja Rama Kulasekhara then left to go to meet RasoolAllah(SAS) but died enroute (or maybe after he met Him - are there any a hadith to this effect?) and is buried in Salala in Oman. Can someone in Oman verify this please? Jazakallahu khairan.
Regrettably the grave of Malik Deenar in Kasargod has been made into a dargah with all attendant charming practices. But the graves of his son and daughter in law in the Masjid in Kodangallur seem to be free
from most such practices. The only thing I saw was that they place some green colored cloth on the two graves which they then sell as tabarruk. But at least none of the abominations that we see in the dargahs of most Sufis are done here.

This Masjid also had the dubious honour of a visit by the current President of India who predictably called it a symbol of secularism.
How a place of worship can be a symbol of godlessness is something which only a rocket scientist can understand, it seems.

At any rate this Masjid is historic proof that Islam has been in India from
629AD(4Hijri) for 1376 years. So much for the BJP theories of Muslims being new comers to India.

The video of the month is a special one due to its historic significance. The video features the historic Cheraman Juma Masjid, at Kodungallur in Thrissur District, which was built during 629 AD and is a combination of Arab and Kerala styles of architecture. It is the first mosque in India and is visited by people from different communities. The mosque was the outcome of the desire of former Kerala ruler, Cheraman Perumal.

Unlike a typical mosque, the interior of the Cheraman Juma Masjid has several decorative items like the traditional Kerala lamp and also finely crafted wood work, especially that of the pulpit.

Cheraman Juma Masjid - Believed to be built in 629 AD by Malik Ibn
Dinar,, it is considered as the oldest mosque in India, and the second
oldest mosque in the world to offer Jumu'ah prayers since the days of
Prophet Mohammed (570-634 A.D.). The first Juma mosque in the world is
the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah, which is also his memorial tomb.

Everyone..................stick
around. My countdown to ****THE FIRST MOSQUE EVER BUILT IN SOUTH ASIA
****is nearing. But everyone in here is for big surprise. Yes, its NOT
in North India (definitely not the asoka pillar mosque in Old delhi,
built in 12th century). I have already found what is probably a 2nd
oldest "surviving" mosque. I'm holding back the image till I confirm
it. its nearly 1000+ yrs old like 10th century. The oldest mosque is
South Asia is NOT in North India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan,
Sri Lanka. Its in Kerala for sure but I'm not sure if its the oldest
"built". It could be oldest "surviving" dating back to 8th century just
150-200 yrs of founding of Islam thanks to arab traders settling on
western coast of Kerala for trade.
